# Introduction

> Apps Assembly builds and maintains, ready to turn on in your portal.

Built-in apps are the apps Assembly builds, maintains, and ships with your workspace. They're secure, interactive, and ready to turn on. For how built-in apps compare to the apps you build and to embeds, see [Apps](/docs/core-concepts/apps).

## Turning on a built-in app

Click **Add App** in the sidebar and open the **Explore** tab to browse and install built-in apps. Once installed, you can configure, rename, reorder, and set visibility for each one — see [Organizing apps](/docs/core-concepts/organizing-apps) and [Custom visibility](/docs/core-concepts/custom-visibility).
